Lyn began her career in show business as a child actress with a small part in the television drama Coronation Street (1960). In the early 1960s she changed her name to Tansy Paul and began a solo career as a pop singer. She then chose the stage name Lyn Paul and formed a group, the Chrys-Do-Lyn's, with two former school friends, Christine and Donna, before becoming a member of the New Seekers pop group from 1971 until 1974.
