Jody grew up in Arlington, Virginia. From the age of nine, she was heavily involved in community and semi-professional theater in the Washington, D.C. area, at venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Jody earned her B.A. from Harvard University and went on to earn an M.F.A. in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco before settling in New York City, where she made her Off-Broadway debut as the lead in the Vineyard Theater's quirky production,"The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island," to rave reviews.
