Born in Schenectady, New York but raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jamal Hill was fascinated with all types of art particularly film and music. Later in life he pursued acting, but after this didn't pan out as expected Hill decided "If you can't beat em join em". As a result he studied writing and directing . After three years of learning his craft Hill and his mother produced a small $10,000 independent film entitled "Money Power Respect" from a 75 page script he wrote. He shot it in 11 days with three of his film buddies and local Philly theater actors. Soon after it's release a Will Smith and Overbrook Films associate Charlie Mack reached out to Hill about his talent. Hill has been with the Overbrook camp ever since, working on films such as I Am Legend, Hancock, Iron Man and directing Lady Gaga's "The Fame" short concert movie. In 2010, Hill returned to Philadelphia to directed the feature film "Streets" starring Meek Mill released nationally by the BET network in 2012.
