Gene Widhoff started his career in film and television as an artist painting movie star portraits for theater lobby cards.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s he was NBC's courtroom artist on trials including those of Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan. He appeared as himself in 1971 on the television show "To Tell The Truth" for his work on The Manson trial and did occasional walk on roles when the studios needed someone to draw on camera, or when they wanted to feature his distinctive silver mane of hair and resonant speaking voice.
