James Francis, Jr. was born in Port Arthur, TX (southeast of Houston, TX) to Patricia and James Francis, Sr. He grew up with aspirations of becoming a writer and adopted the pen name Ethan James late in his high school years. He studied poetry and prose/short fiction at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX where he earned his BA and MA. During this time, he served as Editor in Chief of The Battalion (the largest student-run newspaper in the nation), worked as a city news reporter, and managed a regional entertainment magazine. He furthered a previous interest in photography and soon applied his pen name to his photography studio - Ethan James Photography. He received his PhD in 2010 and teaches college English (composition and literature) with a film emphasis in Tennessee where he also resides. His photographs have appeared in magazine and book publications nationally and across the seas (Brazil, Australia, London, Germany, NY, etc.) and he is finishing up his first book on film in 2012, which is being released by McFarland Publishers. He has also tried his hand as a casting director and still photographer in the upcoming Scenes from a Gay Marriage (directed by Matt Riddlehoover).
